It’s a JOY spending time with the young ladies at Educate Tomorrow! This group of teens, like most, enjoy learning about self-care and makeup. This is OUR GIRLS 4th year partnering with this non-profit, which mentors teens that have aged out of the foster care system. We always intertwine life lessons with practical makeup techniques and wrap up with GIFTS to take away. We are grateful for donations that help us provide treats to these worthy young ladies!

This year OUR GIRLS sessions were held at Miami Edison HS and Miami Northwestern.

So we shifted the demo topic from age-appropriate makeup to include universal self-care and men’s grooming! Healthy inner and outer care is important for every teen. Also, we had a group discussion on “Planting Seeds Of Greatness”

All of the students were gifted with goodie bags filled with mini hair brushes and either skincare, cleansing products or makeup essentials including travel makeup brushes. With it being prom season, and summer approaching, these gifts came in handy.

OUR GIRLS In The Making of #HerStory

So many exciting things are happening this year and this month for Women’s History Month! This year for the first time, I started using the new term “HerStory” and I think it’s very cool.
On Saturday, I was on a guest panel at Olsen Middle School and the theme was “Women in the making of “HERSTORY”
My message to the young ladies was to not get distracted and to plant their seeds of greatness to create the story that will define who they are; to be the change that they want to see in their school and community!
Plant seeds of: Love, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Joy, Encouragement, and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
This is a movement! Join #OurGirls in the mission to be a change maker.

Kara is beautiful on the inside-out and is a great example of what Our Girls instills in young girls and women. Mrs. Brewer Boyd is the Program Coordinator for the National Black Farmers Association and President of the Association of American Indian Farmers. Thank you for being a strong leader, Kara! Our Girls Travel to Alabama

This year marked the 25th Annual National Black Farmers Association Conference. In conjunction with the Association of American Indian Farmers and National Women’s Farming Association, #OurGirls went to Alabama to support all the ladies that attended the conference.

Sharing the message of “Planting Seeds of Greatness”, we had the opportunity to serve, pamper and share our makeup knowledge with #OurGirls from 5 to 50++ It was such a wonderful experience to have “girl talk” and share gifts give aways with the Princesses and a blessing to do makeover sessions and provide helpful tips on how to enhance organic beauty using Makeup By RoryLee.

There may not be a direct correlation between agriculture and makeup however, the #OurGirls experience & universal message of beauty from within is an opportunity for ALL to learn and share.

Summer Break – Life’s Lessons Continue

School may be out for the summer however, there are no breaks when it comes to life’s lessons and growth. The 7th and 8th grade students at COPE SCHOOL made miraclous strides this year. OUR GIRLS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM volunteered 7 months, with a focus on education, creating a vision and pushing past obstacles that some of these young mothers have faced. Uplifting strategies and holistic sessions were held with the support of powerful volunteer facilitators.

They represented a variety of different professions. The students set goals to become doctors, nurses, business owners and more. OUR GIRLS wrote feedback notes as we closed out for the summer. From the mouth of babes, I wanted to share a couple of their messages as a reminder to us all: “I learned in the program that you can do whatever your goal is” & “What I learned out of this program is to not give up on me…”

2014 has been an amazing year, but it is not over yet. Life’s lessons continue & there are goals we all need to accomplish!

OUR GIRLS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM conducts innovative beauty and fun workshops that are designed to meet the needs of the audience or group that is being served. We help to unfold a positive mindset, healthy interaction, confidence, enthusiasm for success, education and leadership skills. These are qualities that are evident in a person with a healthy self-esteem and it is an ongoing process to discover their purpose. The lessons begin with makeup artist tips and techniques, healthy skin care and age appropriate makeup application.

We help guide and share our success to meet the need through mentorship. Many of OUR GIRLS have even gone on to become professionals in the beauty industry. Open discussions, professional guest speakers and hands-on demonstrations include pro-education, image, employability skills, financial planning, manners and etiquette. Whatever it takes to provide the “tools for success” .

OUR GIRLS mission is to enrich and empower young ladies. We strive to instill confidence and help them recognize the unique beauty that each one has within. Beauty comes from within the heart and spirit not what society defines as beauty. Regardless of external appearance, circumstances or the past, each person’s beauty comes from within the heart and spirit. Inner beauty is conveyed by how she carries herself, how she speaks, how she acts and how she treats others. Beauty comes from the inside out.

Do Right Dads were honored at the 2013 Pink & Black Ball ~ A part of the Fatherz In The Hood conference. The army officers just returned from Afghanistan and their lovely princess daughters greeted them there after being pampered for the afternoon. Sponsors at Macy’s South Beach- Manager, Gloria Tucker. Etiquette session was taught by Laquisha Williams. Dynamic Gail Seay did a great job with selecting their party dresses, hair & mini mani pedi’s. … we did perfume testing, Lancome makeovers and my session was #Beauty & #Intelligence — It’s an inside Job! On behalf of #OurGirls I was #Grateful to be involved.
